Trip Computer and dash illumination

On my "new" 92 100CS sedan, I noticed a typical Audi quirk and hope someone
has experienced this.  When I crank up the car at night, the dash is dark but
my auto check and trip computer are illuminuated. When I turn the headlights
or parking lights, the auto check display stays illuminated, but the trip
computer goes dark, but still works when using the controls. I have had Audi's
before with trip computers and never experienced this. Anybody have any
suggestions?  Thanks
