Unka Bart, watch out for those 944's.

Pop has a 1983 944 Calloway...+300 hp, in a really light frame...no
markings to indicate it's anything except a plain 'ol 150-160hp 944.
Except for the thumping noise that makes windows rattle when it's idling...
We were discussing such "innocent" looking cars(like the S family :) at the
Boston meeting...

Too bad it's sitting in about 3000 pieces in the garage. I think he's
intending to race it at some point, which would throw my mother for a loop,
and would arrive just in time for YAMLC(Yet Another Mid Life Crisis.)

PS:You're right, the engine is a 4 cylinder version of the 5 cylinder we
all know and love. Sorta. There's also a ballancing system that runs of
the timing belt with counterweights that smooths out the engine; it's quite
impressive to look at, though not standard Audi issue. The transmission is
the same though, which is neat...thanks to the FWD design, they flipped it
around and the transmission sits very close to the back wheels, leading to
excellent weight distribution. They really did pull off several neat
tricks in the 944...
