GPR and driveshaft center support bearing...
I called GPR today to ask about the pricing on the center driveshaft support
bearing for my '86 5KCSTQ, in case it is bad (which I haven't checked yet).
Because it is relatively low cost, I was going to order one as a spare even
without checking. Greg at GPR gave me a cautious and somewhat paradoxical
response -- he asked me to wait a week and call him back, because apparently
something like 40% of the ones he sends out are being returned to him. Of
course he doesn't like that. He told me that he just sent one to someone he
knows well who will try to install it and give him a thorough description of
any problems and will let me know in a week whether he's going to sell one to
me.
I could guess that some of the people that are installing them don't really
have a bad center support bearing and so send them back, or else they screw up
the installation process and wind up having to buy a refurbished driveshaft.
Has anyone on the list replaced this bearing on a 5KQ with one from GPR
successfully? If so, he might want to hear from you, and so would I.
TIA,
Alex
