The squirrel cage fan does come attached to the replacement blower
motor.
I have just inspected a motor from an '89 100 which failed in service
due to brush wear. The commutator is about 50% worn as well. Brush
replacement and a very careful commutator trim might get another 9-10 years
out of the motor, but I have also seen the fan end bearing go bad on these
units. It's such a PITA to replace these that, unless one is temporarily
financially embarassed, I'd be inclined to put in a new motor (and perhaps a
heater core while I was in there).
