We have friends who had the UFO's on their cars. However, we haven't owned
a car with the UFO brakes as out '90 V8 had the G60 conversion done before
we bought it. I can say this though:
Even though the G60 pads and standard rotors are cheap to replace, these
brakes on a 4000 lb. car are under whelming. It is very difficult to go
from my 3000 lb. urq with these brake to the V8. We are in the process of
going to a 4 piston caliper and 312mm rotor on the V8 to get rid of the G60s.
A UFO equipped V8 will stop much surer than the G60 converted car. You can
use EC article as leverage when negotiating the purchase of a car, but know
that if the UFO brakes are in good condition, there really is no bargaining
room there if the seller is informed.
Contrary to what I have said in the past, on further reflection, I would
not let UFO brakes deter my decision to purchase an otherwise perfect car.
Just budget in a brake conversion (using TAP, KVR, Hoppen, etc.) kit when
the UFO rotors are at the end of their usable lives.
Just my $0.02.
