Clutch R&R-88 90q

Hello all,

Please forgive me if this has been gone over before, but I have a few
questions. First a little history on a recent repair. I just replaced the
original four rotors with new ones along with new pads on my 88 90q-unknown
miles, lowest guess is 189,000 miles. That was a surprisingly easy and fun
job and a testament to the resiliency of our Audis. On to my next project.
On initial startup, my car makes that bad throwout bearing grinding noise.
I'm planning a new clutch replacement due to that noise, a very heavy
clutch pedal and since I've owned the car, have not put a clutch into it.
I've done a clutch and tranny rebuild on an old Mustang but that was easy,
this looks a little harder. I have the Bentley, but it falls a little
short. For removing the tranny, it references tool 3139 for the drive
shaft. Is this critical or not necessary or is there a substitute? Is
there anything I should know about the trans-01A- that should be replaced
while it's out. Shifting is smooth. The only thing that is wrong is the
shifter does not need to be pushed down to get into reverse, which doesn't
cause me any problems. I'm also planning to replace the flywheel due to
the miles. Is this a good move? The manual states not to reuse certain
bolts. Can I clean the old ones and apply new threadlock?-specifically but
not limited to the flywheel bolts. Should I look to replace things like
the guide sleeve and clutch release lever? With these things in mind, can
I enhance the performance with other than stock parts? As time goes on, I
will make improvements to the engine. I was considering the turbo, but
lack of funds prohibits. Thanks for any assistance.
