do 4kq distributors suck?

Sorry for the crass language, but the question is serious. I bought a 4kq,
it ran beautifully, then died(see previous "problem" post), changed just
about everything, hmmm, got into the distributor as a last resort - my
experience is VW based, and VW distributors either seem to work or not - no
in between. There's tons of baked oil, the hall sender does not want to
rotate on it's plate, there are chunks of plastic from the vacuum advance
plate floating around in there - it is a nightmare. My spare 84 GTI
distributor is clean, no baked on oil deposits, no chunks of plastic, nice,
smooth turning hall sender. Not slamming Audi too bad, more curious if
this is a problem area for the Audi. There has to be more heat travelling
through the distributor, being that it is in the head, heat is bad. A
local Audi shop called the 84 4kq distributor a "one year item." Huh?
Anyhow, venting, have three distributors apart in front of me - two 4kqs
and one GTI. Mix and match, hopefully my new toy will work!
