ISV question from new member/owner

Musta put tire chains on my 528 Bimmer about 30 times last winter
to
get out of my driveway. Quattro has saved me. I've always been
a
German car enthusiast - 6 VW's, 2 Porsches - bought my dad a 72
100 LS
back in 72 - what a terrible car. Its no wonder that I stayed
away
for so long after that debacle. I am truly awed by the
engineering
and quality in my recent purchase. Several problems but I
anticipated
such with the age and the milage. Replaced a steering rack using
only
instructions gleaned from this list. Guess I put off joining
because
of the scare of massive mail, but after reading through the
archives
there is not that much junk - a real credit to the list.

Anyway, I have what appears to be the "common high idle problem"
So
I have unplugged the ISV and have run a few months using a lot of
heel/toe to keep from stalling at lights when the motor is cold.
I
guess I am just a cheap b*******, but other than the
inconvenience,
is anyone aware of any other downsides to this mode of operation?
