Nothing special about the V8, or about most Audis. The self-parking mechanism
is a copper track surrounding the motor spindle. This copper track (and a
contact wiper attached to the spindle) make a circuit that powers the motor in
every position apart from "parked". It's only necessary to feed the motor
itself a short pulse - once the spindle has moved a fraction of a turn it
closes the internal switch and powers itself around the rest of the cycle.
Most likely, this contact wiper has slipped 90 degrees. Whatever - the problem
is inside the motor housing. More specifically, it's inside the gearbox
mounted on the end of the motor.
