Crankcase vent filter

Fellow Audi fanatics,
Yesterday I went to my buddies performance shop to inquire about a
bypass valve for my 87 5000 CD Quattro and when we took off the IC to
throttlebody hose to measure the diameter, he was surprised at the amount of
oil in the hose and mentioned that I should use a crankcase vent filter and
plug the hose that goes back to the waffle boot on the air mass sensor.
Any BTDT's, any opinions as to how this would affect the engine's
performance? He said all that oil in the IC was restricting air flow and
that I should drain the IC and clean it with carb cleaner. Thanks.
