Steering rack question.

I think I have a dying steering rack, and I was wondering if anyone
else had experienced this problem. When the steering wheel is turned
left /right the wheel gets tight at a point, almost as if the end of
the rack is being reached or a kerb has been hit. You can go past this
point to the end stop by turning the steering wheel with more force.
The problem is only noticed when parking because the point it happen
is quite far to one side. Also when it does happen blipping the
throttle and keeping the same pressure on the steering wheel will turn
it past the point. I think it could be a worn-out rack or top mount
bearing. Has anybody experienced anything similar or got any ideas on
     it ?
