Crankcase vent clogged?

When I fixed the long-standing vacuum leak last week on my
	'85 5KT, I noticed that the vacuum hose connected to the
	port on the cam cover did so through some kind of a filter/oil-trap
	thingy.  How's this for a theory: I've been getting oil seepage
	out from under the cam cover for a long time -- could it be because
	this filter is clogged and is letting too much (vapor?) pressure
	build up inside?


	What's the filter supposed to do anyway?
