It sounds like you are talking about the spring used to adjust the rear
brake proportioning valve. As the rear axle compresses, this spring applies
more pressure on the valve, which sends a greater proportion of brake fluid
pressure to the rear wheels. The idea is that the rear of the car is
more heavily loaded, so the rear wheels can handle a greater percent of
the braking duties.
One side of the spring should be attached to the axle, while the other
side should be attached to the proportioning valve. The valve is bolted
just inside the right rear wheel well.
Have you ever changed the struts on your 4Ks? On my brother's car, we
messed up one of the rubber bushings that holds the strut in place. We
installed it upside-down, and this caused that spring to generate a
strange noise as the shock moved around. The bushing is kind of a
circular-pyramid shape and is the last piece that goes on the shock rod
before you install the shock/spring in the car. The small end is supposed
to face the shock, while the big end goes against the shock tower.
