central lock questions

Hi all,
some central locking questions for you pneumatic actuated gurus.

I'm having problems w/ a central locking system but not sure if
they're problems or just special features. Here's what I'm trying to
find out.

1)	on mid to late 80's 4K/5K does the driver door have a
pneumatic actuated plunger or just the 3 plug VDO switch to control
the vacuum pump?
2)	The vacuum pump seems to retain vacuum/pressure even after the
door locks have actuated. This makes moving the locks up/down very
hard until vacuum/pressure has leaked down to atm.
3)	Can an alarm be fitted to this sytem for remote door lock/unlock.
That is, how long a 12v pulse is needed on the Hella or VDO pump to
completely actuate the locks.

Why am I asking this. Several reasons. First, I have a 86 4K which
I want to put an alarm in w/ the lazy mans door un/lock feature. And
second, my friend's 90 Jetta w/ p/l blew its vacuum pump and I tried
mine in it and it seems to hold too much pressure in the locks until
the system bleeds down, hence the hard to move locks. It seems
the original pump must have vented as soon as the unit switched off.

	Any thoughts? suggestions? Comments?

	TIA.
