List subscriber etiquette...

I just cruised the archives to see what I've been missing lately -- Hey,
it's 5:40am and I've still got almost 10 minutes before I leave for work! --
and noticed another post about someone backing away from a deal because
someone else from the Q-list was there first.

I'm puzzled about this. I like to consider myself a gentleman but why does
the fact that someone else is also pursuing a car mean that list etiquette
requires the 2nd in line to bow out? Where I come from, the first one with
the money takes it, period. I've had cars bought from underneath me and
I've bought cars from underneath others, and I've never whined or sniveled
about it in any case. The fact that someone has been negotiating to buy a
car for TWO months suggests to me that either they're not that serious about
buying it or they're simply trying to get it cheap ... in either case, I
don't see why this should entitle them to any sort of exclusivity or preference.

There, I've said my piece ... and if you're looking to buy a car in Arizona,
consider this fair warning! :^)
