RE: Ping! K24 Vs K26
The new KUQEFH has Total Seal rings (no blow-by through ring gap)
and a superior 4/5 angle competition valve job. Both of these mods will
increase the effective compression ratio over stock even though the
computed mechanical CR is identical to stock and the piston design
and shape is the same as stock. In order to maintain the same
effective ratio as stock with the Total Seal rings and superior valve
sealing it would have been required to drop the mechanical CR to
lower that stock. It would have been tough (for me) to compute
exactly how much lower than stock the new mechanical CR should
have been. Also, I had no problems at all before so I incorrectly
assumed that I would have enough margin of safety as I could run
gutrot 87 octane with the IA Stage II and the original tired engine.
I was wrong, there was not enough safety margin. The IA Stage II
was right on the safe side of the limit with the stock engine, just as
it should have been. This is no fault of the IA Stage II mod, but, as
it can be easily corrected by me with the right info from IA, I would
like to correct it.

Glen,
So what changed when the engine was swapped? Something must be different.
Did it so it in the summer? Could it be the winter gas?
