5k sound problems

Anyone had problems with the 5kCST sound system, specifically speakers that
keep dropping out and popping back in?  It's getting very annoyging.

Note it's not all of the channel; sometimes it's just a tweeter or a woofer
on one side.  What I've noticed most recently is that the sound goes from
being really "dull" to very "alive"...sounds like tweeters to me.  Problem
is how to track it down.  Should I just find a junked 5kCS and rip out the
rear unit and swap them?  I expect that's not a cheap part normally.
