Does your car shift side to side uncontrolably for unknown reasons?
I bought my 5kq at the end of the summer and it had a few problems, one
of which was this shifting from side to side. I would move off and the
car would shift to the right and then the minute I pressed the clutch, the
car would shift to the left. The harder I drove the car, the harder it
shifted. I replace all the front bushings and checked the rear but found
no problems there. The car had been in an accident before so my father
and I checked the alienment and it was fair. Finally after doing many
experiments we found that it was the rear left bushing. This problem can
is connected to the rear suspension, due to quattro having four wheel
independent suspension. If i remember correctly we jacked up the whole
rear end of the car and did more checks. We shifted the wheel front to
back and it was fine, then it came to my father. Shift the wheel side to
side instead of front to back. "BINGO!". The wheel had much play. We
replaced the top bushing on the rear suspension or rear supension arm, I
can't quite remember the exact technical term for it. If anyone knows its
name, reply so everyone else will know exactly what to get if they need
it. Be a quick shifter from 0-100+ not from side to side almost side
swiping
cars on both sides of you. Hope this was helpful.
