Another part that can cause this is the rubber bushing that mounts the
top of the strut, especially due to accidental impacts.  The hole
becomes egged and the strut can shift between two positions, giving you
two different alignments.  

I once drove 375 mi to NYC and back having to compensate my steering
every time I crested a hill or valley (cc switching from giving it gas
to coasting)  Whew!
