I have thought the same thoughts and gotten a lot of info from this
list. I think the worst problem is the bottom of the cars being
different. So before you decide on the conversion, you should have a
look at your pedals, and decide if you want to try to fit another
pedal there. I didn't.

BTW:
The extra oil in your gearbox comes from the thing that used to be
your diff, until it ran out of oil.

Apparently, what normally happens is:
 - Audi diffs runs hotter than other diffs.
 - This causes some diff oil to vapor away.
 - This damages the diff bearings.
 - This causes the seal between gearbox and diff to leak.
 - This causes remaining diff oil to run into gearbox.

If you decide on a used gearbox, you should (at least I will myself):
 - get the seal ring between the diff and the gearbox replaced.
 - use a really good synthetic oil in the diff (will not vapor away).
 - check the diff oil level on a regular basis.
