The rattle sounds troublesome.
All that stuff is vacuum actuated (well, most of it).
Run the control head diags and see what you get.
I just did this whole drill in my CQ, and it wasn't fun.
With patience, you can get in there, but you'll need lots.

For the record, my heat STILL is not working right.
I replaced the temp regulating motor, which must have
jammed, so I get heat now, but it's not as hot as it should
be.  I'm even thinking of letting the dealer (shudder) take
a crack at it...
