In fact, I asked the guy at the body shop if it had been hit by a
train. It was a truly sobering sight. He told me the damage had been
done by another car and that all four occupants were killed. He went on
to say that they were doing a tear down for the insurance company. I
guess they sometimes investigate cars that have been in severe
accidents.
Also, I was in no way implying (much less saying) that Saabs are less
safe than the next car. I think Saab, Volvo, MB, and BMW all build
exceptionally safe cars. They are not, however, any safer than the cars
Audi builds. I will strongly disagree with anyone who suggests
otherwise. And I, like you, have had very good (although unfortunate)
personal experience with our beloved marque's safety engineering.
