1989 Audi 90 Q gas smell

Good morning Audi fans.

I have not gotten to the bottom of "gas smell" problem  in my car as of yet.   

The smell is not there while I am driving.  It is only there when I come to drive
home after work or the next morning.   

Does the gravity vent valve located in the trunck above the tank give any
problems.   

I am open ton any suggestions.   Thanks alot.
