I dug out my 1989 100/200 factory brouchure, to see what it says to sell
these cars.

" The more power tranmitted to a wheel the greater the potential for
slippage. By distributing the force normally transmitted to only 2
wheels to all 4, quattro permanent all wheel drive dramatically
decreases the chances of slippage occuring at individual wheels. This
results in much greater stability and much improved maneuverability in
all driving situations but especially when taking curves or cornering.
On wet or uneven roadways, quattro permanent all wheel drive cuts wheel
slippage by as much as 66% over 2 wheel drive formats. And on dry roads,
quattro makes it possible to drive your car at higher speeds with
greater control."

Interesting, advocating higher speeds...
