What is wrong with my quattro system? (Audi 5KQ)
I have noticed a great deal of difference between my former 87 4000q and my
88 5000q. The 4000 handled and tracked excellent, but, this certainly
isn't the case with my 5000. When the roads are slippery there is ALWAYS a
tendancy for the back end to want to break loose. Today we got a bit of
snow and my driveway has a long sweeping corner [long for driveway speeds
anyhow :) ] If I give the car a shot of gas in this icy corner the rear
will break loose just like a rear wheel drive car, not aaccelerate and go
where it was pointed like my 4000 did. Also, if I lock my center diff the
car will understeer severely. The only way the differential will unlock is
if I stop the car for about 5 seconds and then drive forward. It usually
disengauges with a small clunking noise. I have had the 5000 on a smooth
ice surface (lake) and did a series of donuts and it was very easy to loose
control and once control is lost it is VERY hard to get it back, the same
tests on the 4000 left me very unhappy because the spinning out of control
"fun factor" was not easily obtaiable as it just went where it was pointed!
Any suggestions here?
Thanks!
