Sunroof

Can anyone help on this one.

Tonight I began to open my sunroof and the thing appears to have broken.
It makes a crunching sound in one direction and in the other you just
hear the motor spin. So I assume the drive is broken.  The big question
I have is how to get this thing open for inspection.

It is pretty much in the closed position and I don't know were to go
from here. Do I just force it up to release the inner lining or?????????
