I have found that the antenna amp does indeed fail in these fuba short mast
units. My usual choice for replacement is a standard hirschmann five-section
mast antenna, which I outfit with a black mast from a Saab. These antenna
units are fairly cheap, as I can get these for around $75.00, New with a one-
year warranty.  The other alternative is to use a VW16V/5000 Avant/ 20VCoupe
style amplified antenna mounted on the roof. They look great. They're quite a
bit of work however. Install involves dropping the headliner and measuring /
drilling the hole in the roof, then running the cable.  These have outstanding
reception, especially on AM.
