4000 Generation Differences

Hey,
	What is the difference between an '84 4000 and an '85-'87? They look
similar but not the same, whereas the coupe looks as if it remained the
same. Are the differences cosmetic or is the '84 narrower. The reason I ask
is because I was wondering if body pieces and interior trim like door
panels would swap out. 
	On a totally unrealistic note. I see (particularly British VWs) retrofits
of later model dash boards in earlier model cars like an A2 VW dash in an
A1. Does anyone know if anyone has successfully put the dash from a later
model Audi 80/90 into a 4000. Later-G
