'89 Audi 200 Quattro Avant about 5 grand???

Howdy fellow/fella Audinauts,
I've got a question for the collective wit of the group. I just got
back from looking at the above mentioned '89 200Q Avant, the guy's asking just
under $5K for the car. The "bomb" is shot, the CHP is leaking Pentosin, the
leather seats are black and not perfect like the ones in my '87 5KCSQ. There
are a few scratches in the pearl paint, the shocks are a bit weak compared to
my Konis. The car has 175K on the clock, and started fine when hot (the way I
came to see it), owner says he thinks the ISV is sticking when cold. I don't
really need the car; my '87 sedan is fine, but I thought an Avant might be good
for draggin' sail bags and the like around. Oh, the plastic weather trim at the
bottom of the rear side windows appears to be shrinking towards the front and
bunching up there...is this common. The engine appeared to be in good working
order; it was an MC like my '87, but had quieter lifters and may be chipped. It
seemed almost as quick as my modified MC....Do I need it...NO! Do I want it...I
don't really know. Is it worth $5k??? Is it worth $3.5K??? Do I really need a
set of these things or should I just consider myself luck that my '87 sedan has
been relatively trouble free, and runs well...consider myself lucky and leave
well enough alone...Oh, the multisensor for the temp. gauge is shot and the oil
pressure guage reads 2 BAR at about 2k rpms, is this pressure normal?? The
5KCSQ has no oil pressure gauge...
Your input is appreciated and if I opt not to get it is anyone else out
there interested??? I have spoken to the seller before by phone and a couple of
years ago posted to the list some ads from the Providence Sunday Journal that
were his, but I don't know this fellow at all; and I'm not trying to sell it
for him, just decide if I really want it or not.
I'm no longer on the "list" so please contact me directly,
Happy motoring,
Shef
