The new beetle is a real sensation.  I have a friend who is a salesman at
a VW dealership and he says that people are coming in to touch and feel
(and buy) the cars in unbelievable numbers.  There are some who even
beg to come in to the showroom after the dealer closed!  They are afraid
to leave any of the beetles outside on the lot for fear that it will
literally be mauled.

Minimal Audi content: The new beetle is designed by the Audi design
studio located in southern California, (at the time) headed by Jay Mays
whose team also created the upcoming Audi TT and TTS.  No wonder that
the new beetle has a roof arch reminiscent of an Audi.
