It sounds kind of strange but up here we did not have a choice on 
such matters.  All ('83 - '87) 4000's that came to Canada not only had 5 
cylinder engines but had A/C, heated seats, mirrors, power windows, 
p mirrors, p locks, p antenna, cruise, sunroof, '84's had Ronal 
wheels and  black out trim like on '84 4kq.  All of this was 
standard equipment.  4 cylinder engines have not been offered 
in Canadian 4000's  since 1982. 
The only sad thing was that Canada did not get it's first 4000 
quattro until 1986.  Kind of strange in a way, considering the 
climate up here.
