tick, tick, tick....in an 80q
I hope this is the last message I have to post for awhile...
My 80q makes two ticking sounds. One comes from the engine and isn't
audible from inside the car. This, I'm assuming, is the good tick. The
one that means my car is running. The other tick occurs intermittently
and only from a cold start. It goes away after the temperature reaches
the first or second line after the initial cluster of lines. I haven't
had a chance to open the hood while the ticking was happening however
since this just began to occur. It IS audible inside the car and the
frequency of the tick rises with rpm (from a tick..tick..tick to a
tiktiktiktiktik). It also increases in volume as rpm rises. It seams
to be coming from the driver's side of the engine. What's wrong with my
car? What will the Audi gods demand of me to fix this? Also, what is
required to fix the "normal" ticking. New lifters? Thanks for the
advice that I'm sure will come. Without the list, I'd never be able to
afford the upkeep on my Q-ship.
