Silly technical question
Interesting also to note that on the 3B at least, Audi updated the entire
flange, gasket and rear seal assembly with new designs. While you can order
the original seal from aftermarket sources aplenty (for $6), AOA will only
sell you the whole new assembly ($70+).

Important enough for Audi to do a recall on some engines where the
crankshaft seal hadn't been oiled.
