As ludicrous as I find the excuse of tires being the culprit for a mediocre
review on a brand new 70K car, even if we assume that changing the tires
would improve some of the performance numbers it would also most likely make
other changes. You can't just change one variable - as everything has a
cost/effect. I assume that Audi chose the tires it did (tires which compete
with the other tires on the other cars - same price range) because they gave
the car certain overall feel Audi desired. Let's say we put D40M2s on the
Audi. Then the reviewers may well have said the Audi handled on par with
the BMW, etc. but felt a tad harsh on poor pavement and didn't give the
quality ride we would expect of a car in this price range.
