RE: Window Reg. Mystery (type 44)
... I hope that you did a bit of diagnostic work prior to ripping the
thing apart. I highly recommend that the first thing anyone does before
replacing a window regulator is to make sure that the motor can actually
get the power it needs to work! The switches themselves are fairly
flaky, and the fact that Audi decided to mount high current switches for
all four windows in the driver's door (probably the most frequently
used) was a poor judgement call on their part. What I am getting at is
that if you look at the wiring loom underneath that rubber accordian in
the door hinge you'll probably find that one or more of the wires in the
bundle are broken. I have repaired regulators where a repair expert
service techs have told me it had to be the motor by finding and fixing
either a switch or a broken wire ...
I've had a lot of experience with type 44 window problems, and have
posted most of my experience to the list in the past. If you want to
remove the clip that attaches the regulator to the window glass the
easiest way to do this is to actually remove the door panel from the
frame! No, I did not do this, but accessing a snap ring from the blind
side is difficult, and it is very easy to damage the window mechanism
while trying to get the clip off (yes, I did do this ...).
Let me know if you need anything further on this ...
