Cylinder head olympics

>You carried it on foot for a mile?

er, yep, sore right shoulder and numb fingers in my right hand, grumble moan,
suffering for my art, whinge mutter.

Cheers for all the advice re the smoke, to answer a few related points.

The head was pulled for no other reason than the smoke blowing, there were no
terminal failures that could have damaged anything else or filled the exhaust
with anything to give the smoke, the problem remains one of smoke, in copious
quantities, on overrunning.

The guides were replaced as well as the seals. The engineering shop that did the
work said they were worn too, esp. the exhaust valve guides, they did _not_ say
that the valve stems themselves were worn and I didn't think to ask them to
check, grumble, suffering for my art etc...

So, it is off to get a compression tester this afternoon.

Graham.

P.S. One thing has struck me in all this, namely that for what I have spent on
the quattro over the past week I could have sorted out the 80 sport, still
sitting on my drive, quite nicely indeed thankyou and had enough spare for a
couple of nights out on the beers for me and ten assorted friends, is life with
a quattro to be filled with thoughts like this? That was last night anyway, it
was raining in Swansea this morning, hmmmmmm, mini roundabouts, heh heh, bet you
can't do that in a fwd 80.
