re: starter noise
Chris: If it was my old Chebby I'd say the solenoid was sticky and not
retracting the starting gear in time so the gear was hitting the teeth on
the flex plate (or flywheel). Don't use it until you figure it out since I
am sure you don't want to damage your flywheel. Your starter motor could
be fine...
