White smoke usually means you are burning anti-freeze; i.e., leaking
head gasket. Have a compression/leak down test performed.
A jumpy idle could be easily be attributed to components other than plug
wires. However, you can easily check the resistance of each plug wire
to see if it is within specs. Though I don't know the values right off
hand, I would be happy to look the specs for the ignition wires if you
need 'em...or maybe someone else out there with a Bentley handy could
post 'em.
