Well, I am not necessarily disagreeing with you Phil, but the events
in the example [people dying from fuel-fed fires and a car allegedly
searching for traction under some circumstances] are quite different,
obviously.

My point was only that one should not wait on warnings or recall
letters from a manufacturer to acknowledge a problem with a vehicle. 
Assuming of course the problem exists, which the manufacturer in my
example refuses to admit:)
