Should I buy 86 5kcstq?? Info, opinion

<< It is a 5 speed that has the syncros blown out of 3rd gear,
sunroof etc - looked pretty well loaded. >>
My '87 had the third gear syncro replaced at about the same mileage.

<<It has ~118K miles on it ran fine (except 3rd gear was a little problem), >>
This is fairly low miles for a quattro, especially an '86.

<<I heard a loud buzzing towards the rear of the car (fuel pump??), >>
Probably, might need the screen sleaned, or may need to be replaced.

<<all power windows worked fine except the drivers side, >>
could be the regulator, switch, or the wires in through the door

<<and it seemed the center blower (defrost) would not turn off.>>
probably needs a controller

<<The paint was a little faded but the car was very straight.>>
Typical, silver seemed to be the worst.

<< The best part was the price, I could get into it for ~$2000.>>
Based on above, sounds reasonable.

<< Now I understand that it will need some work (I would not mind putting in
another $2000 - $3000),but don't want to spend $9K and still have junk.
So here is my problem - is it worth purchasing an older Audi, invest some
time and money to upgrade & personalize (wheels, chip, suspension) or spend
the $12-$15K on a newer version???>>
Question - are service records available? If the car has been service
regularly (especially oil changes), you will be able to tell what needs to be
done. The older cars have a few glitches, but that's what the q-list is for -
the archives are full of good info.

I have two '87s. One is in pretty fair shape for 240+K miles. The other is
mostly a parts car that is in weaker condition. But I like them both.
Haven't regretted buying either one -- even when both went down
simultaneously. They've been frustrating at times. But, hey, so have my two
teenagers.

I suspect that if you decide to pass, there might be another q-lister
interested.
