I'm not sure that price has anything to do with it.  At one time, the Ur-Q
was Audi's flagship; after that, it was the V8 and today, it's the A8q.  The
former is a performance car and the latter are (arguably) luxury cars ... to
my mind, this progression neatly sums up the change in Audi's direction over
the past fifteen years.

I also find it interesting that over the same time period, BMW evolved from
the 735i (definitely a luxury car) to the M3/M5/540i, et al...
