auto trans Vs std trans relative perf
Good to see some real numbers! IMFO, in general, the std trans will always
be faster Vs the auto trans till you get to the point where you have more
available torque/HP Vs traction. When you have more torque/HP than you
have traction then the auto trans may in some cases be an advantage.
Few quattros are going to approach the point where traction is a prollum...

I saw the discussion earlier that some thought that maybe the automatic
5000TQW would be faster off the line than a manual because in the automatic
the throttle never closes, so turbo stays spooled up. I checked with some of
the old 5000 brochures that I had lying around from when I owned one, and
here's what Audi has for the performance figures on each model:
1986
model 0-60 top speed
5000 T NA NA
5000 T auto NA NA
5000 TQ 8.0 132
5000 TQW no mention in brochure
1987
model 0-60 top speed
5000 T 7.7 135
5000 T auto 8.7 132
5000 TQ 7.7 135
5000 TQW 8.1 133
5000 TQW no mention in brochure
1988
model 0-60 top speed
5000 T 7.7 135
5000 T auto 8.7 132
5000 TQ 7.7 135
5000 TQW 8.1 133
1989
model 0-60 top speed
200 T 7.7 135
200 T auto 8.9 132
200 TQ 7.7 135
200 TQW 7.9 133
It seems that the manual was always faster, especially when you remember that
the 5000 automatics had the old 3 speed tranny.
Just for your info,
