Bumper removal -5000 S
<<I have been trying to loosen the mounting bolts, but they don't want =
to budge. I've tried WD-40 on them, a couple of times, and then got to =
the point where I tried to use vise-grips -that didn't work.>>
From your description it seems you are trying to remove the bumper from
the car, not the cover from the bumper -- which is another procedure.
The bumpers (front and rear) on our 5000s are attached by two countersunk
hex-head bolts. I don't know any way to get vice grips to them, so I'm not
sure what you're trying to loosen. If you are loosening bolts that have hex
heads, you are after the wrong parts.
You need a ratchet, a short extension, and a metric hex-head (maybe 8mm,
I forget) socket. There are two holes in the bottom of the bumper that you
need to locate - sometimes there are covers in them. Once you find them you
should be able to get them out. Once those two bolts are loose the bumper
slides off. You will need to pull the bumper cover away from the body as
there is an interlock that helps hold them in place.
