I think there's no truly practical way. I wouldn't try it unless it was
almost a complete loss to begin with. The ultra-smooth appearance of the
finish (and its tendancy to crack or craze) indicates it's pretty thick.
You'd need to apply a stripping chemical--and you'd almost certainly damage
or delaminate the wood veneer.

And then, ugly American that you are, you'd probably decide you preferred
the plastic look, anyway. ;-) BTW, that heavy finish does probably
eliminate the  "application of linseed oil" that we'd otherwise find on our
list of annual maintenance jobs.
