impact of H&R sport springs on '96 A4q

I was just wondering how much of a difference in the
ride do the H&R sport springs make on the A4q if everything 
else is stock? The A4q is a '96 V6-12v.

I'm looking for better handling/cornering and a stiffer ride.
I'm not looking for a huge improvement, just enough to ride
like a stock BMW 328i. 

Would the springs do the job, or would I need new shocks, too?
Or would I be better off with something else. I don't know
much about what changes to make on a stock suspension; I just
know that the A4 drives a little softer than I like.

I'm not looking to spend an arm and a leg, either.
