A4 & Squeeling Brakes

I own a '98 A4q 2.8.  I love the car, save the noisy brakes.  They
squeal loudly when warm and produce excessive brake dust.  The poor
wheels last only several days before cleaning is necessary, or at least
warranted.  Dealer recommends washing the rotors thoroughly with a
strong jet of water after each bath and generally heating the brakes
more to "Burn off the glaze."  I welcome any invitation to drive the car
harder, but there must be a better brake pad option available.  After
speaking to several other owners of similar cars, these complaints seem
to be very common.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.
