Trivia time:
A month or two back, I came across Brembo's web site. There was either a
link or a note for their US distributor, so I called them. Interesting
chat, learned about the kit they offer for the A4, but no kit for other
Audis (yet, or unless you can adapt the A4 kit to other Audis). This kit
is based on calipers Brembo originally made to Lotus specs for one of their
cars (and to which Lotus has agreed to allow Brembo to sell aftermarket).
It's a 4-pot caliper, 36 and 40 mm pistons for up to a 314 x 28 mm rotor,
which will theoretically fit under a 15" wheel (probably ought to try 16")
More interesting: If you get the Porsche Brembos (big red are 36 & 44 mm
pistons), you must go to your supplier for the parts (or Porsche). They
might look like other Brembo calipers, but they are an OEM product Brembo
makes to Porsche's specs, for Porsche--they will not sell you replacement
parts for it. Exactly how they get to the market (besides Porsche) I don't
know. And there are other Brembo "gray market" calipers out there too,
which may or may not have parts that interchange.
so said the guy i spoke with.
