I once used my brother's Thule from his '87 Jetta on my former '85
Audi 80 Type 81 sedan (R.I.P. - I think it's the same as the 4000)
some years back. There was a little free play, but I transported two
little cabinets on it for 50 km driving _very_ carefully.
I don't think it was designed for the use on the Audi. For me it was
just a temporary solution.
