It isn't a switch - it knows every torque ratio from 80:20 to 20:80
(or whatever) - and not just those two.  To get from one to the other
extreme it _HAS_ to pass (even if only fleetingly) through all of the
intermediate ratios.  Treating this process as "instant" is, I believe,
highly dangerous.
