Re: V8Q "surging"
Phil:
I and a couple of other folks have experienced a "surging" effect with both
the 3.7 and 4.2 engines in our V8Q's. It is apparently normal. When
accelerating at a consistent moderate throttle in first and second gear,
the car moves in a slightly stepped manner through the revs rather than
smoothly. Third and fourth gear do no seem to show it and under hard
throttle it is much less noticable. Would this be what you are referring
to? This effect occures but to a greatly lessor degree in the A8 4.2Q as
well. But, that car removes the driver from a great deal more feedback in
general by comparison.
On a related note. I stopped at the dealer for an oil change because I
make out on their special, $25 for oil and filter including labor for all
Audis. My car takes 8 quarts and the filter costs a bundle. They had the
estimate waiting for an owner of a 1990 V8Q with 100K on the odo for head
gaskets and ignition wires. Something like $4,000 including labor. $1,500
of that was the parts cost for the wires alone! I assumed his colon would
be surging after seeing that.
Please tell David Preece I said hello! The last time I talked to him, you
had elections, the new government was in and he had gone out on the ledge.
